#BIRTHDAY: Pino Gasparini from Switzerland is 79 today

It must he tough when you perform at a Eurovision Song Contest, knowing the guest of honour is there watching you. Not only that, but when the guest of honour won for your country, there must be a lot of pressure.

In 1985 we had the best contest ever, and it was also the 30th circus and was in sunny Göteborg. The guest of honour was a certain Ms Lys Assia, a Swiss Lady. Today’s birthday boy Pino Gasparini teamed up with Mariella Farré to sing in front of her and a large amount of others. Of course, Pino had done his stuff before, singing about a Swiss Lady. Coincidence? Anyway, at this contest they couldn’t repeat Ms Assia’s feat. Our two Swiss of Italian descent sung their little song in German and finished twelfth. Not the finish they wanted, but I’m sure they were proud that their only winner at the time was there to cheer them on.
