
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 11th:
Saturday 11th March 2023
On this day in 2023, the 63rd edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Loreen took victory with “Tattoo” and 177 points. At the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, Loreen finished 1st, with 583 points.
Saturday 11th March 2017
On this day in 2017, the 57th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Robin Bengtsson took victory with “I Can’t Go On” and 146 points. At the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Robin finished 5th, with 344 points.
Saturday 11th March 1989
On this day in 1989, the 29th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Tommy Nilsson took victory with “En dag” and 113 points. At the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest in Lausanne, Tommy finished 4th, with 110 points.
Wednesday 11th March 1959
On this day in 1959, the 4th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Cannes, France. Monaco debuted, while the United Kingdom returned. Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest. The Netherlands took victory with Teddy Scholten performing “Een beetje” and 21 points.
