
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 8th:
Saturday 8th March 2014
On this day in 2014, the 54th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Sanna Nielsen took victory with “Undo” and 212 points. At the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Sanna finished 3rd, with 218 points.
Saturday 8th March 1997
On this day in 1997, the 37th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Blond took victory with “Bara hon älskar mig” and 80 points. At the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Blond finished 14th, with 36 points.
Saturday 8th March 1980
On this day in 1980, the 20th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Tomas Ledin took victory with “Just nu!” and 112 points. At the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest in The Hague, Tomas finished 10th, with 47 points.
