#Belgium : Eurosong 2025 #Live Blog from 20.55 CET/19.55 GMT

Goedenavond Europa, Bonsoir L’Europe , Good evening Europe! Tonight, in Vilvoorde, Belgium , we get to find out who the nation will select to fly their flag at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, in Basel, Switzerland .

Eight acts will compete for the Golden ticket to Basel ,the winner will be decided by a 50 % Public vote and the remaining 50% by a professional jury , consisting of music experts , which includes the 2023 winner of Eurosong , Gustaph and the winner of the 2013 Eurovision Song contest , Emmelie de Forest.

The eight acts competing are , in order of performance :

Presenting the show will be Peter Van de Veire .

As always, we at Eurovision Ireland are bringing you our LIVE BLOG of tonight’s show, so please join me, Sarah , as we go through an evening of fun, entertainment and hopefully some good performances ! Those of you familiar with our site will know the rules , REFRESH THIS PAGE to get updates throughout the show as we follow the action live from Belgium.

You can follow the action live HERE or HERE

Please do feel free to leave any thoughts or comments about the songs in our comments box as we go through the show , it’s always interesting to see how different our musical tastes are .

We do appreciate the enthusiasm but you’re a bit early ! #joinus at 20.55 CET , 19.55 GMT , when we will kick off our live blog . In the meantime, here’s a reminder of Belgium’s performer from last year, Mustii . Sadly, he didn’t make it to the Grand Final in Malmö, despite being one of the pre- contest favourites.

Good evening everyone, welcome back ! In a few minutes, we’ll ( hopefully!) be going into the live link for the Eurosong show and start our live blog. Hope you’ve got your drinks and snacks ready ? .Just also to say that I purposely HAVEN’T listened to any of the song previews , so tonight will be my first time hearing them . Let’s hope we’re successful getting into the live stream, I always feel a bit nervous that the livestream will fail just when I don’t want it to !

Still waiting…..talk about cutting it fine ! For some reason we seem to have a delay to the live link. Hopefully we won’t miss any of the show !

Apologies for the delay everyone, we’re still waiting for the live link to start !

We now have a picture but looks like they are struggling with the broadcast of the live link on You Tube

Looks like we’re through now, starting with a scene of Gustaph , the last Eurosong winner in 2023 in the streets with his song “Because of You ” playing in the background, we’re then taken to the stage where he performs the song . I must admit I love it and never doubted it would do well in Liverpool .

We now have a break from Gustaph singing and the performers tonight do their equivalent of the flag parade opening .

Big cheer from the crowd for Gustaph ..We meet our host for tonight , Peter Van de Vere

We’re introduced to the “expert ” panel tonight . You might recognise Emmelie de Forrest there !

Gustaph’s in the panel too . There’s a bit of banter , explaining the procedure for tonight and some chat with the panellists .I can’t understand a word of Dutch/Flemish, so bear with me , they talk very quickly !Quick reminiscence of Gustaph’s Eurosong victory in 2023. They’re showing that bit where he’s announced as winner and he looked totally shocked! Love it!

He says he’s looking for consistency as one of the qualities in the act to send to Basel tonight .

Peter explains the voting procedure and we get preview clips of the songs as the voting number to call is given .There’s a big cheer in the hall for one certain act as their preview comes on !

We’re now introduced to Zita, who is apparently a social media reporter !

Looks like we’re finally getting down to business now , with the first act LEEZ . Each act will have a preview film before the performance with the performer talking about their song and other things .

LEEZ starts off with her backing dancers , looking like they’re in a dentist’s waiting room , sat on four armchairs ,with four lit lamps in the background behind them , which then switch off. it’s hard to describe her suit, it’s a bit like it’s made up of patchwork, abottle green trouser suit with patches sewn on , backing dancers also casually dressed. Staging has white square moving holograms in the background. We also have some pyros ! Always good for a great finish . It’s a polished dance routine and LEEZ does a good job but will going on first be a problem for her ?

Emmelie De Forrest loved her !

Next up is Le Manou .Well, what can I say about this ? It kind of reminds me of a mix up of Joost Klein and Europapa and Laura Thorn’s “Poupee monte le son” from Luxembourg ! Skirt looks like it’s been through the shredder and the backing dancers are in white , very short frilly skirts. They start off in red racing car with the words of the song in the background on stage , then get out and proceed to dance around the stage . I can’t help but feel it’s a weaker version of Laura Thorn’s song for Luxembourg and this could pose a problem if they both go to Basel, could cancel each other out .Gustaph describes it as a fun song. Fun it might be , but I think will need a lot of work to make it work on a bigger stage in Basel.

Jelie is alone on stage , her outfit leaves nothing to the imagination with all white cropped all in onesuit and see through white skirt . Now , she doesn’t need any backing dancers and her vocals are sound . The only thing I would say is that the blue staging is a little dark. I can’t help but feel it needs something powerful, like pyros to give it a more dramatic ending .Over to the panel after the performance . Emmelie likes this song too . She likes them all so far , I think !

Black is the colour for Mentissa and her backing singers. This is quite a lively little number and you actually see Mentissa and her backing singers interact with each other on stage and look like they are enjoying performing . One of the backing singers has a guitar with her on stage . With a bit of work and if this could work on the bigger stage in Basel. it may stand out . I quite liked it .

We’re now getting an interval where we look back at past Belgian National finals .

Onto the next act ….Lenn .

At last we get away from dark staging ! Lenn looks like he’s walking through clouds and the backdrop shows the sky , with Balloons,Not surprising given the song title. There’s smoke effects galore ! It’s a happy song and his voice is good. The only thing I would say is that as an act, it’s probably a bit too “safe” and might struggle amongst other similar type songs .

Black leather is the outfit . Stefanie is alone on stage but has a gospel like backing singers off stage . She stands static on stage and gesticulates through the song . She’s certainly putting a lot of emotion into the song. The staging is simple with blue backdrop, surrounded by several spot lights either side of her . The vocals sounded a little off at times but otherwise, this has the ability to bring something to stand out against all the pop songs that we will inevitably see in Basel. One of the panellists is comparing Stefanie’s performance to that of Salvador Sobral, who won for Portugal in 2017 . That’s not a bad comparison to be made to, although I really can’t see it myself!

Cheer for Red Sebastian before we even see the performance !Oh my, this is a real bop and the most 21st century song in the contest !Sebastian starts off alone stood on a podium , the stage is completely full of red strobe lighting, as depicts the song title. Sebastian really sells the song well, joined later by backing dancers also dressed in red and black who dance around him. It’s the most “in your face” performance we have seen yet and I think this will do very well if it goes to Basel. The only thing I think is against it is that the strobe lighting might be a little too much for those not able to tolerate it, as it flashes constantly and quickly through the performance, to the point where I found it difficult to see Sebastian . This is my winner tonight , let’s see if the Belgian public and panel agree.

Now this is a lively end to the show tonight . Grace and her backing dancers give an enthusiastic performance to a song which has been choreographed to an inch of its life ! The staging has graphics on the ceiling and in the background . Grace starts off in a suit , which she then loses towards the end of the song to reveal a leopard skin colour shorts and top. She then performs some break dancing . I can hear and see shades of Slo Mo by Chanel ( Spain 2022) here and one of the panellists agrees with me on this ! This might work on the bigger stage, as Chanel proved in 2022.

So that’s it ! we’ve seen all the acts and now getting a recap ? Which one was your favourite ?

We’re onto interval acts now and first up is Tom Dice, who sang for Belgium in Oslo in 2010 , he came 6th in the Grand Final . He looks to have aged well and he still sings the song as well as he did all those years ago in Oslo .

We get another recap and reminder to vote……only in Belgium though !

Time for another interval act and this time we get another blast from the past! Emmelie de Forrest singing “Only Teardrops”. I am sure I don’t need to remind you that she won for Denmark in Malmo in 2013 .

Over to the Green room now and a chat with the performers .

We have results Jury first
