RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster, have revealed details surrounding the new voting sequence, used at the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Madrid for the first time.
Ana María Bordas, the Executive Producer of Junior Eurovision 2024 and Spanish Head of Delegation has explained the changes to the voting sequence this year. It was down to RTVE to deliver the visualisation of the scoreboard, not the overall idea. It was to avoid stress to the young performers and to fit within the new running time of the Contest. Ana María Bordas had the following to say:
“The Junior Eurovision Steering Group decided that the voting method had to be updated to avoid stressing the younger artists and to avoid situations like the one that happened in Nice with the two finalists, Spain and France, which caused anxiety and tears in the artists. At the same time, the reduction of the show’s duration to 2 hours also forced us to speed up and find a more efficient way of awarding points.”
