Switzerland

Where are they now ?

The new Eurovision season is now on us and during the build up to National Final Season and the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, we at Eurovision Ireland felt it would be timely to continue with our Here Today, Gone Tomorrow series , where we look at past Eurovision performers and where they are and what they are doing now . As Switzerland are our host country for 2025, we have decided to focus this series entirely on the past Swiss performers at Eurovision .

Today , we are focusing on one of the more recent Swiss performers, Mélanie René, who represented Switzerland at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with the song “Time to shine”.

Mélanie René is a Swiss singer and song writer who is of Mauritian descent . Music has always been part of her life, growing up with musician parents, then developing a love of music herself at the age of 7 .She trained in performing arts and song writing at the Funambule theatre in Nyon , Switzerland. She was noticed at many competitions but one that stands out is the George Grigoriu festival in Braila , Romania , where she won the grand prize in 2009. In 2010 , she came to the United Kingdom to continue her musical training at the Academy of Contemporary Music and the Brighton Institute for Modern music . During her time in the UK, she wrote the song that was to become her Eurovision entry “Time to Shine”. She won the Swiss National Final and the right to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna , Austria . Unfortunately she failed to qualify from Semi Final 2 , coming 17th .

Melanie served on the jury for the 2016 Swiss National Final , broadcasted by RTS . In 2018 she took on a new brand name , Melyz, and a year later released an EP called “Don’t tell on us “.
