Can #ASTROLOGY predict the winner of Eurovision 2024?

One sleepy Sunday morning during the rehearsals for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, we were around the breakfast table and our minds started to wander… discussions eventually turned to Astrology and we hit on an interesting notion: which Zodiac sign has won Eurovision the most?

One thing let to another, and as we researched and discussed it further, we tumbled down a rabbit-hole of Star Signs and planets… of course, many people read their daily horoscopes and use them to navigate their day to day lives – but do the stars also hold the key to Eurovision victory?

As I said a moment ago, we went headfirst down a rabbit-hole with this information and even days later we’re still mining away, drawing new ideas, new methodology and parameters… but while this can (and will!!) lead to more articles further down the line, for now we’re going to focus on a very simple question: Can the Zodiac point towards who is likely to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2024?

To explore this, first things first, we needed to find out the Zodiac signs of all Eurovision winners – every soloist, duo and the bands too! We then plotted those results on the graph below and observed the following pattern:

Zodiac Signs of winning acts at the Eurovision Song Contest 1956-2023

Studying this curve, two distinct peaks emerge: first around mid-Spring at Taurus, which having produced 11 Eurovision winners is the Star Sign of the most winning acts. The bell curve also gives us a peak around Autumn with Scorpio and Sagittarius both having 10 winners each to their name. This is significant as it means the majority of Eurovision champions have Autumn Zodiac signs (Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius), which accounts for the largest grouping of winners. At the other end of the scale, late-Spring and Summer see a significant dip, with only 3 Cancerians having won the Eurovision Song Contest in its more than 6 decade long history. Curiously, the traditionally gregarious signs of Gemini and Leo are also rather underrepresented among Eurovision winners.

Next up, we take a look at how the Star Signs of the class of 2024 contest compare:

First thing to note is the distribution of contestants throughout the year – there are fewer peaks and troughs as this year’s singers are evenly spread, which one would expect to see in a data set for any population. There is a peak around Leo, with 8 contestants being born with this Star Sign. In an observation that may upset the applecart, hot favourite with the bookies Nemo from Switzerland is Leo, which as we’ve seen is a Sign not well represented among the contest’s winners – further curious to note that half of Leos taking part this year didn’t even make the final! Interestingly, the pundit’s other favourite Croatia’s Baby Lasagna is Cancerian, the Sign with the least Eurovision winners to its name… but of course, any data set is just waiting to be turned on its head! The Stars would also argue that the UK’s Olly Alexander, who is also Cancerian, may struggle while Irish hopeful Bambie Thug is Pisces, who traditionally have more luck at the contest.

So which singers have favourable Star Signs when it comes to Eurovision 2024? Slovenia’s Raiven, Serbia’s Teodora and Armenia’s Jaklin are all Taurus, which would appear to put them in good stead, as is Mats from Norwegian band Gåte. San Marino’s Vitti is also Taurus, though as the band haven’t qualified for the final he is out of the running… curios to note that the other members of Megara are Leos and a Cancerian too… did this take the edge off a traditionally strong Eurovision contender? Will be interesting in future to investigate the effects in bands where other Star Signs are also at play – I told you, so many rabbit holes!!

Fan favourite Joost from the Netherlands is Scorpio, a Star Sign that has done very well in the past… if he’s still competing (at time of publication, we’re not sure what’s going on!). Portugal’s iolanda and Austria’s Kaleen also share Scorpio, so may also be acts to watch. Similarly, Sagittarius has produced many winners, meaning Lithuania’s Silvester, Norway’s Magnus, Cyprus’ Silia and Luxembourg’s Tali look to have favourable chances – could Norway’s combination of Taurus and Sagittarius prove to be a winning combination?

We’re so close to final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 – what do you think? Is there something in our Zodiac research? Do you think the Stars can influence the outcome of our beloved contest?
