The EBU are introducing a new safeguarding policy ahead of the 2023 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Nice, with the document been released in the coming weeks.
Ana María Bordas, Head of the Spanish Delegation and a member of the Junior Eurovision Steering Group, announced this new policy during the presentation of the Spanish representative – Sandra Valero. The policy is based on the model of the United Kingdom’s BBC, which has had something similar implemented for a number of years.
While the full details of the policy are yet to be revealed, it is expected that the mental wellbeing and physical health of the participants will be covered. With the implementation of this policy, it is hoped former participating countries critical of the Contest, specifically the Nordic Bloc, will return to participation.
