
Now that the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest is over, the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is coming! Six of the original participating broadcasters have already ruled themselves out from returning.
Belarus – BTRC
BTRC, the Belarusian national broadcaster, was SUSPENDED from the European Broadcasting Union after the Eurovision Song Contest in May. Unless another Belarusian broadcaster joins the EBU in time for the Contest in Paris, their 100% participation record will end.
Belgium – VRT
VRT, the Flemish broadcaster from Belgium, have confirmed to Eurofestivales that they will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, after last competing in 2012.
Denmark – DR
DR, the Danish national broadcaster, revealed back in 2018 their reasons behind their non-return. Unless the EBU change the values of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, a return of the nation is unlikely.
Latvia – LTV
LTV, the Latvian national broadcaster, have confirmed to Eurofestivales that they will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, after last competing in 2011.
Norway – NRK
NRK, the Norwegian national broadcaster will not be in Paris. Eva Rutgerson, the NRKjr Executive Producer confirmed this, while at the same time mentioning Melodi Grand Prix Junior will continue.
Sweden – SVT
SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster will not one returning to the Contest, after last competing in 2014. This was revealed by the broadcaster during their rehearsals at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
