
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Malta.
Malta debuted at the Contest in 1971, in Dublin, Ireland. Joe Grech finished in eighteenth and last place with his entry “Marija l-Maltija”, scoring 52 points.
The most successful entry from Malta was in 2002 and 2005. In 2002, when the Contest took place in Tallinn, Estonia, Ira Losco finished in second place with her entry “7th Wonder”, scoring 164 points. This included three sets of twelve points from Croatia, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
In 2005, when the Contest took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, Chiara finished in second place with her entry “Angel”, scoring 192 points. This included one set of twelve points from Russia.
The most recent Maltese entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Destiny was due to represent Malta with her entry “All of My Love”.
This year, Malta will be represented by Destiny with her song “Je Me Casse”. Will Destiny take Malta to their first victory?
