After the Eurovision Song Contest adopted the Melodifestivalen way of delivering split jury/public votes in 2016, Melodifestivalen are now adopting the way that the Eurovision Song Contest deliver the public votes, since 2018.

Once Melodifestivalen has received all the International jury votes, the public votes for the twelfth placed artist will be received, followed by the eleventh, tenth etc. This aims for added tension within the final results sequence.
