BIRTHDAY: Kristína from Slovakia is 32 today

Next on our occasional series of “which country would you like to see return?” is one that first took part in 1993, and in eight appearances didn’t really do that well. Wrongly, obviously.

It’s Slovakia, that gem of a country in the heart of Europe. And within the heart of this country in the heart of Europe is the area serenaded by today’s birthday girl Kristína Peláková. It’s apparently a beautiful place, full of trees, breeze and probably cheese. Our Kristína scored points from six countries in her semi-final. She beat one country, but should feel rightly aggrieved about some of those that finished above her. Still, this song has become a classic.
