BIRTHDAY: Jessika from San Marino is 30 today

Coming from one country yet singing for another? Well, it happens as well you know. Maybe more often that we realise. But some countries seem more likely to pick a foreigner than others.

If you cast your mind back to 2018 – I know, it’s sometimes difficult – you’ll remember our friends in San Marino having a proper selection process. The result was Jenifer Brening being featured in a song performed by today’s birthday girl Jessika Muscat. Jess isn’t from San Marino, but had built up a reputation for trying and trying in her native Malta. Sadly, after all that effort of national finals going back to 2009, she failed to get out of her semi-final. She didn’t finish last and even got a televoting maximum. But let’s hope Jessika isn’t put off and perhaps gets the gig from her own country someday.
