United Kingdom : Yesterday the terrible news that singer/songwriter Lynsey de Paul passed away unexpectedly at the age of 64.

Many will remember Lynsey for her performance at Eurovision in 1977 when she and fellow singer/songwriter Mike Moran brought the United Kingdom to second place at the contest with their song ‘Rock Bottom’. They certainly did not finish rock-bottom as the song went on to be a huge hit across Europe.

Lynsey was an iconic British singer and songwriter and was well-known before she represented the UK at Eurovision in London. Songs like ‘Sugar me’ and ‘No Honestly’ had been hits at home and abroad.

She won 2 Ivor Novello Awards and was also a member of the Eurovision Jury for the UK in 2012.

Lynsey died yesterday of a sudden brain haemorrhage and the sympathies of the Eurovision Ireland team are with her friends and family.

She will never be ‘Rock Bottom’ with us.

  1. Unfortunately the phrase “Rock Second” became the newspaper’s headlines afterwards!

A beautiful and amazingly talented woman, she will be sorely missed…RIP
