Did people tune into RTE to look at Eurovision 2014? Well the simple answer is “yes” they did. With 20 songs from the contest making the Irish Top 100 we can now bring you the tv ratings.
RTE Eurovision 2014 Ratings
- Tuesday Semi Final 1 – 209 thousand average and 15% Share. A Reach of 726 thousand.
- Thursday Semi Final 2 (Ireland’s SF) – 403 thousand average and 30% Share. A reach of 1.099 Million
- Saturday Grand Final – 444K thousand average and 33% Share. A reach of 1.398 Million
As for the definitions of the above statistics here is a useful guide
- The 1 minute “reach” refers to the numbers who tuned in at some stage for one minute.
- “Share” is the percentage of available audience at the particular time.
- The “average” refers to the average number of viewers across the duration of the programme.
Again it clearly shows that people are interested in the Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland and that despite not making the Grand Final, people wanted to spend their Saturday night looking at the show and of course voting – for Poland so it seems. Bravo!
How did you spend your Eurovision Grand Final night? Many spent it at house parties looking at the show from what you have told us.

I am not surprised to see the ratings for the final exceed 1.39 million even though we did not make it. That shows that the Eurovision is hugely popular in Ireland.
Nobody watching at my event voted for Poland that’s for sure. No doubt we’ll be giving Poland 12points every year they’re in à la Lithuania before. Irrespective of the quality of the song or performance. Gad to see such healthy viewing figures though.
