LIVE BLOG
Andrew James main here tonight giving you coverage of the Norwegian Final which is live from The Spektrum in Oslo.
Tonight is our last super Saturday in the 2014 National Finals season and by Tuesday we will have heard all 37 songs
that will be going to Copenhagen in May. Norway has been the top favourite to win Eurovision this year based solely
on the fact that the Norwegian hot favourite is considered by many to have Eurovision winners pedigree written all
over it. Carl Espen has that undoubted honour and pressure with his rather haunting song Silent Storm.
But there are another 8 songs in the running tonight so we look forward to see the battle commence for that coveted
golden ticket to Copenhagen.
The show starts with a suspense thriller with the hosts and previous entrants for Norway.
We are introduced by Ludwig who is a mini presenter dressed like the real presenter.
We are then introduced to all the artists in running order.
The host are in the green room area and speak briefly to Knut then to Linnea.
Then they speak to Charlie.
El Cuero – Ain’t No Love In This City No More
The first song of the night is the only band in the competition. El Cuero are a pop rock group
and have a very catchy tune which fairly moves along at a good pace. The lead singer has a good voice
but is only missing out on the long hair epected of this genre, a really slick guitar solo half way through
this is a really good performance and a nice way to start the show. I would give this 7 out of 10.
Elisabeth Carew – Sole Survivor
Elisabeth has been in this before and is wearing a green sparkly dress, she has a fairly catchy tune
and her vocals are a little shaky but she looks confident. She is accompanied by 2 backing dancers.
Overall package 6/10
Knut Kippersund Nesdal – Taste of You
Song 3 tonight is from Knut who has handsome baby boy looks and is pleasing to the eye.
He is also a very accomplished singer with a good vocal range. The performance starts
with a spotlights show. He is wearing a blue bomber style jacket. This is a very catchy pop tune indeed.
Very electronica at times with a good back beat. The crescendo at the end is accompanied by some pyros.
Excellent performance from Knut 9/10
Dina Misund – Needs
Dina on next with a country pop song. Dina is in a long black flowing dress and is playing a guitar.
She is accompanied on stage by a band with banjo, guitar and drums. Dina has a nice voice which compliments
her gentle country song. The song is pleasant and totally inoffensive but not strong enough for Eurovision. 6/10
Mo – Heal
Mo is on next and he is a very colourful character with dark hair on top and blond hair on the sides.
He is all in black and brings a very contemporary pop R and B song to the stage with Heal.
He is very confident and his vocals are pretty near perfect. He is on stage with a troupe of male dancer
who are fully clothed. Dare I say that I actually see this as a dark horse in the competition and could surprise
people tonight with a good result. 8/10
Linnea Dale – High Hopes
Linnea wears a long emerald green dress. Her song is very different to anything else tonight, moody and melodramatic.
She has 4 dancers with her who are doing a ballroom type routine. This is very classy and extremely catchy
with a great back beat to it. I truly love this and would love to see it win tonight. 9/10
Charlie – Hit Me Up
Charlie brings us the slushy girly pop song of the night. It’s very Katie Perryish and she has two male dancers
on stage with her. As far as this style goes it is actually well sung i.e. in tune Charlie gives us a refreshing
display and is trying to appeal to the young vote. An accomplished performance. 7/10
Carl Espen – Silent Storm
The penultimate song of the night and the big favourite too. This is a stunning performance so moving.
He reminds me vocally of Antony and the Johnstons. Its a rough but very accomplished vocal performance.
Its simple and not overstated. It builds really well towards the end. Then ends really quietly, brave but it works.
9.5/10
Oda & Wulff – Sing
The last song of the night is the cutesey cheesey song of the night. Oda and Wolf are a very pretty couple indeed.
He is on a guitar accompanied by a backing group. She comes on after the first verse and chorus. Its all very
sing-along and charming. A nice pleasant song but not a winner for me. 7/10
So there we have it, all 9 songs have been performed and we get a reprise of all the songs with the voting numbers.
The show will take a break at 21.05 CET and return at 21.45 CET for the results.
PREDICTIONS
For me its Carl Espen all the way, I would be surprised if he did not win tonight.
But if he doesn’t make it then its close between Knut, Linnea and possibly Mo to steal it tonight.
So my Prediction for the Superfinal is Knut , Mo , Linnea and Carl.
Now after the break we are back to the MGP in Norway.
I managed to walk the dog, have my supper and top up my wine ready for a rollercoaster
of a result from Norway. We get another recap of the songs tonight.
We have a result.
The first superfinalist is Knut Kippersund Nesdal with Taste of You
Now get a reprise of his song.
The second superfinalist is Carl Espen with Silent Storm.
We get a reprise.
The third superfinalist is Mo with Heal.
We get a reprise.
The fourth superfinalist is Linnea Dale with High Hopes.
Ok I am not gonna crow but I predicted all the superfinalist.
We get another reprise.
My overall prediction is Carl Espen to win with Linnea Dale 2nd.
We get a reprise of all 4 songs with the numbers to call.
Margaret Berger comes on for the interval.
Mo wins the first district televote by a very small margin from Carl.
Silent Storm wins the 2nd vote.
Silent Storm wins the 3rd vote.
High Hopes wins the 4th vote.
Silent Storm wins the 5th and final vote by a huge margin.
Carl Espen and Silent Storm will go to Copenhagen.
A predictable but overall good result for Norway.
Have Norway chosen wisely and will they win Eurovision with Silent storm?
Let us know you thoughts.
