LIVE BLOG
Welcome to the live rolling blog of Melodefestivalen 2014. I am at home tonight after 5 weeks at Gracielands, the other
natural home of Schlager. We are introduced to all the acts in tonights final here in the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
1.Anton Ewald-Natural
The first song of the night is from Anton. Pretty boy Anton starts slow with this modern pop song with a good beat.
It soon picks up speed though and is fairly catchy and very boppy with a good beat. 2 male dancer are with him on
stage and have a slick routine. Some of the vocals are not quite spot on but overall a good start to the show.
2. Ellen Bendicktson – Songbird
Ellen on 2nd tonight with a beautiful haunting ballad. She is standing on an island in the middle of the crowd.
Such a lovely unique voice too it does remind me of the mood of Netherlands from last years show in Malmo.
Vocally this is near to perfect and gives off such a lovely feeling when listening to it. A great performance.
3. Alcazar – Blame it on the Disco
On third is the Schlager favourite of the night from Alcazar. They emerge from a huge glitterball and let rip into
their disco stomping shlager classic beat of a song, its got glamour glitch and lots of fabulousness in between.
Sound and looks the part and perhaps Sweden will choose them for Eurovision at last. Great stuff.
4. Oscar Zia – Yes We Can
Song 4 is from Oscar. They make use of large TV screens over the faces of Oscar and his dancers.
Another pop song with slick choreography and vocals that are not quite spot on. A pleasant enough
song to my ears but feel it will split the young girls votes with Anton. I do not think either will win tonight.
5. Linus Svenning – Bruder
The first song of the night to get through from Andra Chansen is Linus. He starts the song in the crowd. A lovely
song with good strong vocals. He looks mildly scary with his tattoos and piercing but am sure he is a big pussycat really.
He finishes the song on stage with lots of smoke effect and his jacket has come off. This is a dark horse for tonight.
6. Helena Pararizou – Survivor
Number 6 in the running order is Eurovision winner Helena. She also came from Andra Chansen.
A very solid performance here with flawless vocals from Helena this is a decent song indeed and would
be perfect for Eurovision. Whether Sweden will vote enough for it we shall wait and see.
7. YOHIO – To the End
Next up is YOHIO who won the public vote last year but failed to get to Eurovision. YOHIO is certainly an unusual
looker on stage with all the hair and make up and glitter, he is backed by a decent looking band and overall
it makes for a good sounding glam pop song. I would normally say it had a chance but may just fail to make it
over the finishing line once again, good solid performance though.
8. Sanna Neilson – Undo
Song 8 is Sanna who is favourite tonight. This is her 7th attempt to get to Eurovision and this is a lovely haunting song
with a good feel to it, it is flawless vocally and totally derserves to win tonight and I think it would do very well at
Eurovision if it wins tonight. Well done Sanna Neilson.
9. Panetoz – Efter Solsken
The penultimate act on tonight is Panetoz with their African feel dance song. Slick routine and vocals for this song
it has a good beat to it very heavy drum beat. A bit of rap to it too which fits the style of the song.
Not always my cup of tea but I like this performance but do not think it will be in the running overall.
10. Ace Wilder – Busy Doin Nothing
Last and certainly not least is Ace Wilder this has shot up into the running pre contest. It is now 2nd favourite.
Its modern and contemporary which seems to do rather well at Eurovision these days. Vocally much better than
the semi final this song has a great vibe to it. Love the chorus to it. I can really see this doing well in Copenhagen
if Sweden pick it tonight.
So there we have all 10 songs performed and we are watching a recap of them all with voting numbers.
I am predicting on my own tonight which may be a good thing given the Shlager vote normally.
I think its between Sanna , Ace and Helena with Ellen and Linus as dark horses.
We are now moving onto the interval act(s).
WE start with an ABBA tribute. Sung by lots of previous Swedish stars from Eurovision.
Charlotte Pirelli on a sling singing Gimme Gimme Gimme classic stuff here.
We now have a result from the jury.
Italy is first with 12 points to Ace Wilder.
Germany is next with 12 points to Linus Svenning.
Israel next with 12 points to Ace Wilder.
France is up next with 12 points to Alcazar.
Netherlands is next with 12 points to Ace Wilder.
Malta next with 12 points to Helena Pararizou.
Russia next with 12 points to Ace Wilder.
United Kingdom next with 12 points to Alcazar.
Estonia is next with 12 points to Linus Svenning.
Spain is next with 12 points to Sanna Neilson.
Denmark finally with 12 points to Ace Wilder.
So overall after the jury vote Ace Wilder is first followed by Sanna Neilson with Alcazar in 3rd.
We get another run through of the song with voting numbers.
We are now back to the final interval act where we see the hosts dancing and singing along
to last years winner in MF.
We have a result.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Sanna Neilson has won by 2 single points.
What an amazingly close result. Well done to Sanna on making it to Eurovision after so many attempt.
Hard luck to Ace Wilder with a cracking song.
Did the right song win? Let us know.
