Portugal – Celebrating their return to Eurovision and their 50th anniversary in the contest will stage the Festival da Canção over 2 shows.
The first show will have 10 songs compete which will then be reduced down to 5. The remaining 5 songs will then be performed in the second show and a public vote will decide the winner.
RTP (Portuguese National Broadcaster) will invte 10 composers to submit entries and performers but RTP will have final approval on the acts. The 2 shows are planned to take place in March.
Portugal did not participate at Eurovision 2013 and their return to the contest was welcomed by the EBU.
Portugal have yet to win the Eurovision song contest. Their best result to date has been in 1996 with Lúcia Moniz and the song “O meu coração não tem cor”.
