Graham Norton – BBC Eurovision Commentator mistakenly says that Cyprus withdraw from Eurovision 2013
Graham Norton – the BBC comedian and Eurovision commentator has mistakenly this week announced that Cyprus have withdrawn from Eurovision due to their current Banking Crisis.
Live on BBC radio he said that “Cyprus had pulled out already hadn’t they? They suddenly announced the banks were all collapsing. The fact they pulled out of Eurovision months ago suggested they knew trouble was afoot.” It seems that Graham will need to brush up on his Eurovision facts over the next few weeks before the contest begins. I hope he knows that Bonnie Tyler is representing the United Kingdom in Malmo!
Cyprus will indeed be at Eurovision this year and will be represented by Despina Olympiou with the song “An Me Thimáse”

Bonnie got replaced by BradTheLadLong didn’t she?
First order of business: congratulations on the new site.
I am from Portugal and sometimes I get this idea that the UK is not really sure what ESC is about. Cyprus out? Was he making a joke, albeit an obvious one?
‘An me thimase’ is a beautiful and elegant that will probably be ignored, because so many fans vote for flags.
P.S.: I am sure Bonnie will soon be texting him about her going to Malmö just in case. :)
LOL
Thank you Shevek for your kind words on our site
I certainly miss Portugal at Eurovision this year. We loved Filipa last year and she was so lovely when we met her!
As for Graham – he actually thought Cyprus were not in the contest this year! We totally agree with you that Despina is a wonderful singer and her song is like her – elegant. We are hoping that she will make it to the final. Island solidarity ;-)
Please bring back Sara Tavares. We love her “World Music” that she does now
