#BIRTHDAY: 8 Apr – Dulce from Portugal is 57

When you think of some countries, you may think of a style of music associated with them. Highly-produced pop for somewhere Nordic for example. Or a Balkan ballad. Or fado perhaps.

Fado is a solely Portuguese thing, even though a Croatian songwriter once penned one in that style for Eurovision. Anyway, today’s birthday girl Dulce (née José Silva Pontes) didn’t just sing in fado she sang about fado. We all know that her country’s results have been up and down over the years (mostly down, but when they’re up they’re really up), but Dulce finished a respectable eighth place. So with our Lusophone friends plumping for fado again in Vienna, can history also repeat itself with another eighth place or better?
