#STORYOFMYLIFE – Day Three with Sarah from EI

#STORYOFMYLIFE – Day Three with Richard from EI

In this series, we’ll be talking to someone and asking them to pick five songs (over five days) that mean something to them. These may not be their top five songs of all time – merely songs that attach to a specific memory or time in their life.

Sarah from Eurovision Ireland continues this series. What’s her third choice, and what’s the story behind it?

Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann – Dansevise

I may not have been around when this won for Denmark in 1963 but I have chosen it for its simplicity and beautiful vocals from Grethe. Because it’s also sung in the Danish language, it’s very much a reminder of my own Danish heritage, as my late mum was Danish . Every time that I hear this song it always reminds me of my many visits to Denmark and , of course, of my late mum and Danish family members who have also left this world as they would have been around at the time of the 1963 contest.

This song has stood the test of time, it’s well-loved, particularly in Denmark where I have often heard it played on their local radio. And even in today’s modern contest I still think it would stand out amongst all the big up-tempo performances, just for its simplicity.

If you have five songs that really mean something to you, drop us a line with them and the stories behind them, and you could feature soon.
