Following the completion of three editions of the Regio Songfestival, it has been revealed the Contest has officially been cancelled.
Nina Nomden, Director of RTV Noord and winning broadcaster from 2025, confirmed that the thirteen broadcasters had agreed to review the contest after three editions to determine whether it should continue. Nina Nomden had the following to say:
“That showed that not every province has such a fantastic audience as we do. So the national impact isn’t as great as we’d hoped. But we’re going to think about how we can still offer a platform to our Groningen talent.”
Maarten Fussel, acting editor-in-chief of Omroep Gelderland, host broadcaster from 2025, had the following to say:
“We look back with pride on the fact that the last edition was held here in Arnhem. It’s a wonderful place to give talent a chance on the big stage. We’re now looking for new projects to collaborate with all the broadcasters.”
