The EBU, the European Broadcasting Union, have confirmed that Eurovision Asia will not take place due to no confirmations from them or Voxovation, the rights holder for the region.
Voxovation has spoken to BBS and all episodes of Druk Dra have been taken down from all their online platforms. It is currently unknown whether the selection will continue, however it was due to select the Bhutanese representative for the ABU TV Song Festival next month.
Martin Green, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest and the Acting Executive Supervisor, had the following to say:
“Earlier this week, a Bhutanese broadcaster aired a selection program for the Eurovision Song Contest Asia.
Our format rights holders in Asia have spoken with them and the episodes have now been taken off the air and removed from online platforms.
While it’s no secret that we would love to see an Asian edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, to date no plans have been confirmed or announced.”
