The Mayor & Mayoress of Nice have been detained over a funding investigation surrounding the 2023 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Christian Estrosi and his wife, France 2 journalist Laura Tenoudji-Estrosi, were placed into police custody on Monday for questioning over funding for Junior Eurovision 2023 and the Nice Climate Summit, both of which were subsidised by the Municipality of Nice. The investigation concerns embezzlement and illegal use of public funds and forgery of public documents.
Delphine Ernotte Cunci, president of France Télévisions, several board members of France Télévisions and Jean-Christophe Tortora, president of La Tribune, a weekly financial newspaper, have also been summoned for questioning.
Neither Christian Estorsi, Laura Tenoudji-Estrosi or the City of Nice have commented on the proceedings. France Télévisions confirmed in a statement on Friday that they will “fully co-operate with the investigation”. France have yet to confirm participation at the 2025 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Tbilisi. It is unclear whether the investigation will affect participation this year.
