During the last week, while we had restricted press access , we at Eurovision Ireland have been taking a look back at some of the memorable moments of Eurovision over the years.
There is no doubt that Eurovision over the years has often given us lots of rather entertaining moments, apart from the singing ! Ranging from the funny, to weird, to dramatic and sometimes serious .Who could, for example, forget the four country win back in 1969 , or host Lill Lindfors , losing her skirt at the contest in Gothenburg in 1985? We at Eurovision Ireland decided it would be fun to look back at some of those entertaining moments , so each day during the run up to Basel 2025, we will be refreshing those memories by looking at one of those special moments .
Today’s Memory
As it just happens to be the birthday of the great Lill Lindfors today, we thought it only right that we should focus on the memory she gave us back in 1985 at the contest in Gothenburg , Sweden . Lil hosted that year’s contest . Just as she was walking through parts of he stage props, she had a malfunction with her skirt, which then ripped off , showing her legs. She then pulled down from her shoulders , a long, white dress. She later admitted that it was a gag but hadn’t been rehearsed. It apparently ruffled the feathers of Frank Naef, the executive producer of that time, who didn’t approve but this remains one of the most talked about hi-lights in the history of Eurovision . Lil has turned 85 today and is still going strong. She was voted the best Eurovision presenter of the 80’s. Happy birthday Lill from us all at Eurovision Ireland !
