Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 18th:

Saturday 18th March 2006

On this day in 2006, the 46th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Carola took victory with “Evighet” and 234 points. At the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Carola finished 5th, with 170 points.

Sunday 18th March 1962

On this day in 1962, the 7th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. France took victory with Isabelle Aubret performing “Un premier amour” and 26 points.

Saturday 18th March 1961

On this day in 1961, the 6th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Cannes, France. Finland, Spain & Yugoslavia all debuted. Luxembourg took victory with Jean-Claude Pascal performing “Nous les amoureux” and 31 points.
