
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 9th:
Saturday 9th March 2024
On this day in 2024, the 64th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Marcus & Martinus took victory with “Unforgettable” and 177 points. At the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Marcus & Martinus finished 9th, with 174 points.
Saturday 9th March 2019
On this day in 2019, the 59th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. John Lundvik took victory with “Too Late for Love” and 181 points. At the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, John finished 5th, with 334 points.
Saturday 9th March 2013
On this day in 2013, the 53rd edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Robin Stjernberg took victory with “You” and 166 points. At the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Robin finished 14th, with 62 points.
Friday 9th March 1990
On this day in 1990, the 30th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Gothenburg. Edin-Ådahl took victory with “Som en vind” and 99 points. At the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb, Edin-Ådahl finished 16th, with 24 points.
Saturday 9th March 1968
On this day in 1968, the 10th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Claes-Göran Hederström took victory with “Det börjar verka kärlek, banne mig” and 23 points. At the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest in London, Claes-Göran finished 5th, with 15 points.
