DR, the Danish national broadcaster, have confirmed their continued non-participation at the 2025 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
While DR continue to stay away from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for another year, their critical views of the Contest have changed. DR recognises the positive implementation of new measures at the Contest aimed at protecting young artists. DR’s strategy is to continue delivering formats that offer ‘Danish Values’ to younger audiences.
Marlene Boel, Director of B&U, had the following to say:
“Although we continually evaluate our participation in international projects , we have so far decided not to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest . The decision is primarily due to our desire to focus on developing our own programmes and activities for children that are tailored to the everyday life and context of Danish children.
We recognise that the EBU has made important changes to the format and is highlighting the welfare of children in the competition, which is positive.
At DR , we focus on creating and supporting content tailored to our youngest viewers . For many years, we have had the great pleasure of producing MGP , which we consider a unique platform for children in Denmark.
MGP offers children the opportunity to express themselves musically in a safe and supportive environment, and we emphasise that the format fits well with our national culture and the values we want to promote in content aimed at children.
