The referendum surrounding the City of Basel covering a number of costs of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, has taken place today.
With 95% of the votes received by mail, those voting in person today will not overturn the result. According to SRF, two thirds of people who voted in the referendum by mail have backed a proposal on how the Eurovision Song Contest will be funded in the city. The question that faced the voters in Basel read as:
“Do you approve the Grand Council resolution of 11 September 2024 regarding the authorisation of expenditure for the staging of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 in Basel?”
Following the ‘yes’ result, the normal host city activities such as the EuroClub, the Eurovision Village and other venues outside of the main Contest venue, St. Jakobshalle, will take place.
