KAN, the Israeli national broadcaster, is facing a transition from the public to private sector, by the Israeli government.
The Israeli government is proposing a bill that will see KAN moved into the private sector. If privatisation went ahead, Israel would be without a public broadcaster and therefore would potentially be unable to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest. KAN could continue to be a member of the EBU, while a private channel can be a member, it would have much stricter conditions and criteria than public bodies with varied and balanced programming.
