Radio Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein national broadcaster, will no longer be applying for membership of the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union.
Following a referendum, over 55% of voters have backed a referendum which will see Liechtenstein’s only public broadcaster privatised. Radio Liechtenstein is currently funded by a national licence fee, which will end in 2025, when the broadcaster becomes privately funded. With only 40,000 residents, questions have been asked about how a private broadcaster can survive.
