23.23 – We’re getting an ABBA medley now. From Barbara and the acts in contention tonight.
23.21 – ABBA won 50 years ago, so we get a retrospective of Brighton
23.19 – The public vote is closed. The results can’t be far away
23.15 – These get switched to a format we recognise.

23.14 – Here’s how things look.

23.13 – The final jury is in Sweden. An Alcazar member gives 12 to Ryk
23.12 – Cesár Sampson gives the Austrian vote. They give 12 to Isaak
23.10 – Runar from Iceland gives his 12 to Galant
23.09 – Katrina of the Waves fame gives us the UK vote. She gives the maximum to Isaak
23.08 – Onto Lithuania. The Vilnius vote goes to Max Mutzke. The votes are everywhere.
23.07 – Spain next, and Alvaro. His 12 goes to Marie Reim
23.06 – Anja from Croatia likes Bodine Monet best
23.05 – Luca Hänni from Switzerland likes Ryk best
23.04 – First results time. The international jurors are giving their votes.
23.00 – After another recap, it’s more chatter
22.55 – And they’re here!

22.55 – You want Lord of the Lost? Here’s a retrospective of them. They met King Charles III too
22.52 – There’s some chatter with the audience now.
22.47 – The public voting is now open. Here are the numbers.

22.42 – This has more of a soul sound to it. Max is in black with a wide-brimmed hat and a red stage. And it has the words on the backdrop for the chorus. It’s showing off his experience in the music industry, and he’s got a confidence about him. The song is a little formulaic, but he carries it well. A decent song to end on.

22.38 – Finally, it’s song nice from Max Mutzke. He sings Forever strong. He sang at the contest in Istanbul in 2004.
22.33 – Her song’s introduction reminds me of something else. It’s got dancers, the first we’ve seen tonight, and there is a slightly dancey vibe to it. In fact, once the chirus kicks in it is very catchy. And it’s in German – good on her. If Germany want to send something different, yet strangely familiar, then this could be the one. She does have a decent voice to go with the package, and of course there are pyros. A very good effort.

22.28 – Song eight tonight is Naiv, by Marie Reim. She’s Michelle’s daughter.
22.26 – We now meet Michelle. She sang in Copenhagen in 2001. And not to be confused with Dutch Michelle.

22.24 – We start in shadow. It’s another dramatic song that does actually draw you in early on. There are some decent notes being sung here, and he has a bit of a range in him. There is a reliance on the backdrop that varies between oscillations and red lighting. Definitely not formulaic and definitely in with a chance.

22.19 – Song 7 comes from Ryk. He sings Oh boy
22.15 – Prop time, which in this case is a large tree suspended from the ceiling. It’s clearly an autumnal tree. Bodine goes for the flower child look – floaty clothing, that sort of thing. her backing singers sway nicely around her. This is OK. Pleasant again.

22.11 – Song six comes from Bodine Monet. She sings Tears like rain
22.10 – Barbara is giving out goodies to the audience.

22.09 – This is a ballad in English. We’re going all heartfelt, singing about the rain and being lost. He has a pretty range, hitting some high notes at the end of the chorus. There’s almost a gospel quality to this song. But does it really get going? I’m not so sure

22.05 – Song five comes from Floryan. He sings Scars. He won Ich will zum ESC!
22.03 – We’ve now been joined by Conchita Wurst. She won a few years ago.

22.02 – Galant are a duo. They both sing too. There’s a Kraftwerk vibe to this, and is set off by old TVs on stage. It’s a different song, and the way selections are going this might hit the mark. There’s a catchy chorus replete with a dance move meant to be a cat holding out its claws. It bounces along really well and is the most noteworthy song of the night so far.

21.57 – No messing about here. We’re moving to song four. It’s Katze by Galant
21.56 – Isaak is on stage by himself. It’s a dramatic song with chanting in places. he has a pretty decent voice and doesn’t really need to move around the stage to get his point across. And his English is very credible too. His staging is supplemented with smoke cannons, just for that extra drama. It’s nocely powerful and may well catch a few votes tonight.

21.52 – Time for song three from Isaak. He sings Always on the run
21.48 – A quick retrospective of Mary Roos. She took part in 1972 and 1984. Aufrecht geh’n was a high point. As was Nur die Liebe lässt uns leben in 1972. She gets a standing ovation.
ä21.44 – Panelist Riccardo has a birthday, so gets a big cake. He’s a mere 31.

21.43 – There’s a Lena Meyer-Landrut lilt to her voice. Well, it’s worked before… It’s a slow and downbeat song about lost love. It’s definitely in the pleasant category with it’s simple slightly orchestral arrangement. It’s also sticking to a formulaic structure, and has a key change. So something for everyone. Especially dry ice. Pleasant definitely, but maybe too pleasant to do well.

21.38 – Song two comes from Leona. She sings Undream you
21.37 – It’s a band – obviously – who look like they wouldn’t be out of place in a Students Union. The short verse gives way to a chorus that has potential. It’s a tad staccato but would suit a good radio station. It’s a nicely safe song, with the guitar-ey riffs and solos doing the heavy lifting. Not bad, but it does end a little abruptly.

21.33 – And it’s onto song one. It comes from NintyNine and is called Love on a budget
21,27 – We’re meeting some special guests. One is Mary Roos. A legend.

21.26 – And we’re off, with a quick parade of the acts.
