RTCG, the Montenegrin national broadcaster, have opened up about the possibility of a return to the Eurovision Song Contest, in 2025.
Questions that have been asked of RTCG include “Will there be content allowing local musicians to present their songs, considering that most programs primarily feature covers of popular hits?”, “Is there a plan to organize a music festival produced by RTCG, given previous announcements about events like the Winter Festival as an alternative to Montevizija, Montefon, and others?”, “Does RTCG intend to participate in Eurovision and conduct a national selection for the representative?” and “Is there room on RTCG for the hip-hop and rap scene, and how will this genre be represented in the programming?”. RTCG’s editorial had the following to say on these matters:
“According to the Draft PP plan for 2024, RTCG envisions the continuation of the entertaining music show “Hit Galaksija.” This program promotes Montenegrin artists in each episode, allowing them to perform their original music alongside cover songs. Another show, simultaneously broadcast on RCG – POP TOP, hosts domestic artists, showcasing their music. Additionally, a new music documentary show titled “Alternativni puls” is planned, promoting the alternative rock scene and allowing bands to present their original music.
RTCG Montenegro plans to organise a music festival aimed at promoting new songs by local performers and authors. This festival might also serve as the platform for selecting Montenegro’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, depending on the available funding.
Due to reduced production capacities in 2024, there won’t be a dedicated show exclusively focused on the hip-hop and rap scene. However, these musicians will be engaged through other entertaining programs. RTCG ensures that the promotion of hip-hop and rap won’t be neglected, incorporating special music blocks, such as a music carousel, to maintain visibility alongside other genres on the public service.
The broadcaster commits to considering future investments in personnel and production capacities to eventually launch a dedicated show exclusively focusing on the hip-hop and rap subculture.”
