
On August 12th, the SHORT LIST for the 2023 Host City was revealed. While we donāt know where the Eurovision Song Contest will be held next year until the Autumn, we thought weād look back at the cities that have already hosted the Contest.
Birmingham
Birmingham (one of the short-listed 2023 host cities) hosted the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, in the United Kingdom. The Contest was held at the National Indoor Arena (now the Utilita Arena) and was won by Israel. Dana International performed āDivaā, taking victory with 172 points. Ireland was represented by Dawn Martin, who performed āIs Always Over Now?ā. She finished in 9th place, with 64 points.
Brighton
Brighton hosted the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, in the United Kingdom. The Contest was held at the The Brighton Dome and was won by Sweden. ABBA performed āWaterlooā, taking victory with 24 points. Ireland was represented by Tina Reynolds, who performed āCross Your Heartā. She finished in 7th place, with 11 points.
Brussels
Bruusels hosted the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest, in Belgium. The Contest was held at the Palais du Centenaire (now the Brussels Exhibition Centre) and was won by Ireland. Johnny Logan performed āHold Me Nowā, taking victory with 172 points.
Cannes
Cannes hosted the 1959 and 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, in France. The Contest was held at the Palais des Festivals et des CongrĆØs and was won by Luxembourg in 1961. Jean-Claude Pascal performed āNous les amoureuxā, taking victory with 31 points.
Copenhagen
Copenhagen hosted the 1964, 2001 and 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, in Denmark. In 2014, the Contest was held at the B&W Hallerne and was won by Austria. Conchita Wurst performed āRise Like a Pheonixā, taking victory with 290 points. Ireland was represented by Cann-linn feat. Kasey Smith, who performed āHeartbeatā. They failed to qualify from the second Semi Final, finishing in 12th place, with 35 points.
