
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Latvia.
Latvia debuted at the Contest in 2000, in Stockholm, Sweden. Brainstorm finished in third place, with their entry “My Star”, scoring 136 points. This included four sets of twelve points from Belgium, Estonia, Finland and Norway.
The most successful entry from Latvia was in 2002, when the Contest took place in Tallinn, Estonia. Marie N finished in first place with her entry “I Wanna”, scoring 176 points. This included five sets of twelve points from Estonia, Germany, Israel, Lithuania and Spain.
The most recent Latvian entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Samanta Tīna was due to represent Latvia with her entry “Still Breathing”.
This year, Latvia will be represented by Samanta Tīna with her song “The Moon Is Rising”. Will Samanta Tīna take Latvia to their second victory?
