
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan debuted at the Contest in 2008, in Belgrade, Serbia. Elnur & Samir finished in eighth place with their entry “Day After Day”, scoring 132 points. This included two sets of twelve points from Hungary and Turkey.
In 2011, when the Contest took place in Dusseldorf, Germany, Ell & Nikki finished in first place with their entry “Running Scared”, scoring 221 points. This included three sets of twelve points from Malta, Russia and Turkey.
The most recent Azerbaijani entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Efendi was due to represent Azerbaijan with her entry “Cleopatra”.
This year, Azerbaijan will be represented by Efendi with her song “Mata Hari”. Will Efendi take Azerbaijan to their second victory?
