
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Norway.
Norway debuted at the Contest in 1960, in London, the United Kingdom. Nora Brockstedt finished in fourth place with her entry “Voi Voi”, scoring 11 points.
The most successful entry from Norway was in 1985, 1995 and 2009. In 1985, when the Contest took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, Bobbysocks finished in first place with their entry “La det swinge”, scoring 123 points. This included eight sets of twelve points from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
In 1995, when the Contest took place in Dublin, Ireland, Secret Garden finished in first place with their entry “Nocturne”, scoring 148 points. This included six sets of twelve points from Greece, Iceland, Poland, Portugal, Russia and Turkey.
In 2009, when the Contest took place in Moscow, Russia, Alexander Rybak finished in first place with his entry “Fairytale”, scoring 387 points. This included sixteen sets of twelve points from Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
The most recent Norwegian entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Ulrikke was due to represent Norway with her entry “Attention”.
This year, Norway will be represented by TIX with his song “Fallen Angel”. Will TIX take Norway to their fourth victory?
