UMK, the Finnish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, will remain as an open Contest next year. If Aksel Kankaanranta wishes to participate next year, he will have to submit an entry like everybody else.

The UMK Producer, Anssi Autio, had the following to say:

“A year is a long time for any song and Eurovision is for new music. Aksel may choose to participate with a new song next year, but the jury of professionals will select the contestants and ultimately, the voters will make the selection.”
