#20YearsOn: Where Are They Now? Part 2/5

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Contest last been held in Israel. In 1999, the Contest was held in Jerusalem and twenty three participants took part. Over a series of five articles, we are going to look at where those twenty three participants are now.

Slovenia: Darja Švajger

Darja Švajger represented her nation in 1999. Darja placed mid-table in 11th place, with a total of 50 points.

Very little is known about Darja Švajger after the 1999 Contest. She has released a handful of albums, the last to date been in 2008, before a re-release of the same album in 2013.

Turkey: Tuba Önal & Grup Mistik

Tuba Önal represented her nation in 1999 and placed in 16th place, with a total of 21 points.

Tuba Önal has gone on to name various characters in Disney movies – including The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, Anastasia and Mulan.

Norway: Stig Van Eijk

Stig Van Eijk represented his nation in 1999. Stig placed mid-table in 14th place, with a total of 35 points.

Stig released a solo album after the Contest, as well as another one in 2013. He also collaborated on other albums in 2010 and 2015. With his girlfriend, Stig launched a youth project called “Trollala”.

Denmark: Trine Jepsen & Micheal Teschl

Trine Jepsen & Micheal Teschl represented their nation in 1999. Trine & Micheal placed in 8th place, with 71 points.

Trine participated in the 2001 edition of Popstars and landed a place in the group EyeQ. She participated in DMGP a couple of times before taking to the theatre – performing in a number of musicals from 2011. Michael has little known about him since 1999.

France: Nayah

Nayah participated represented her nation in 1999, placing quite low in 19th. She achieved just 14 points.

Nayah joined a religious movement called International Raelian Movement alongside her husband.
