In an interview with Tele-Loisirs before the first show of the 2018 French selection event Destination Eurovision tonight, Christer Björkman, the Head of Delegation for Sweden, has mentioned his wish to Sweden win a 7th Eurovision – before 2021!
Björkman, who is to be one of three international jurors on Destination Eurovision, has stated that he wants at least one more Swedish win at the contest before he stops working with Melodifestivalen in 2021. He said:
To win Eurovision, one must achieve the perfect alchemy between a unique song and its artist, not to mention its scenography. Even though we have very good songs every year, it’s very rare to find such a diamond. It seems to me more realistic to aim for a Top 10. It is this objective that should aim at France.
Sweden currently has a total of six wins under its belt – just one more and they’ll tie with reigning champions Ireland and their record 7 wins. Having placed in the Top 10 an impressive 6 times in the last 10 years, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched that Sweden could win it again very soon… will they stop at 7? Almost certainly not!
What do you think? Can Sweden pull off another win in the next 3 years? Will Sweden go on to have the highest number of wins at the contest?
Let us know what you think!
