“I certainly understand that this year will not be easy for us (Russia) at this International contest” are the words from Philip Kirkorov as he puts the finishing touches to the Russian entry for Eurovision.
He was approached on March 6th to be involved in the Russian Eurovision project for this year. It is clear that he is aware of the PR mountain that Russia has to climb in this year’s Eurovision song contest.
In his interview he says
“I certainly understand that this year will not be easy for us (Russia) at this International contest. However I never seek the easiest ways. In 1995, when I performed at the Eurovision, Russia was under attack because of the war in Chechnya, and then I had to feel all the pressure because of these political circumstances. Overall, conditions now are not really blissful, but it even adds excitement. It’s like having extreme sex in an airplane – adrenaline rolls”
Kirkorov is said to have agreed to work for free with the Tolmachevy twins saying that they
“are professional, creative and extremely talented”
With the International writing team composing the song and Fokas Evangelinos working on the staging of the song, they are hoping to overcome the perceptions of Russia at the contest. The twins are being vocally coached by Alex Panayi who is also working with Teo from Belarus this year.
Kirkorov is supposed to be finishing his role in “Chicago” the Musical in Moscow during Eurovision but that may change now due to his involvement with the entry this year.
We still await the song “Shine” from the Tolmachevy Twins as they continue to post instagram pictures of themselves still recording in the studio.
Will the International audience give Russia a chance at Eurovision this year?
