
ARTE, the French-German public service broadcaster, has be come a full member of the European Broadcasting Union, allowing them to participate in EBU Contests – they previously broadcast the 2017 edition of Eurovision Choir.
ARTE, formed in 1990, currently broadcasts in six different languages on television across eight countries. It can also be viewed internationally via the internet. They have content agreements in place with other EBU members – they are ORF (Austria), RTBF (Belgium), ČT (Czechia), Yle (Finland), ARD/ZDF (Germany), ERT (Greece), RTÉ (Ireland), Rai (Italy) and SSR SRG (Switzerland).
Noel Curran, the Director General of the EBU, had the following to say:
“ARTE’s dedication to high-quality, cross-border cultural programming complements our collective mission to strengthen and promote public service media across the continent.
Their membership of the EBU will enhance our ability to drive innovation and deeper connections across borders, empowering public service media to continue enriching the lives of audiences throughout Europe.”
