#IRELAND: A Return Of A National Selection For 2022?

Internal selections have been held by RTE, the Irish national broadcaster, to select the Eurovision Song Contest every year, since 2016. With the exception of 2018, Ireland have failed to qualify for the Grand Final. There have now been calls to return to a national selection.

Micheal Kealy, the Irish Head of Delegation, told the Irish Sun the following:

“I feel it’s time we reverted to giving the public their say in what we do but we must find an effective and cost effective way of doing that. Other countries are able to invest significantly more money and resources in their selection processes, staging and support teams than a small chronically underfunded broadcaster like RTE, that’s unfortunately a fact of life we can’t ignore.”
