
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Spain.
Spain debuted at the Contest in 1961, in Cannes, France. Conchita Bautista finished in ninth place with her entry “Estando contigo”, scoring 8 points.
The most successful entry from Spain was in 1968 and 1969. In 1968, when the Contest took place in London, the United Kingdom, Massiel finished in first place with her entry “La, la, la”, scoring 29 points.
In 1969, when the Contest took place in Madrid, Spain, Salomé finished in joint first place with her entry “Vivo cantando”, scoring 18 points.
The most recent Spanish entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Blas Cantó was due to represent Spain with his entry “Universo”.
This year, Spain will be represented by Blas Cantó with his song “Voy a quedarme”. Will Blas Cantó take Spain to their third victory?
