TV3, the television channel of Spanish region Catalonia, is aiming for full EBU Membership by 2020. This comes following a vote in the Catalonian parliament this week.
In the same sitting of parliament, a vote also saw the agreement in participating at the Eurovision Song Contest – something that is unlikely to happen, unless the region gains independence or RTVE withdraws from the competition.
If full membership is achieved however, TV3 could participate in Eurovision Contests that RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster isn’t interested in – the prime example been S4C (Wales) taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest where the BBC or ITV aren’t interested in representing the whole of the United Kingdom.
