RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster, has revealed that the proposed Hispavisión is currently in deadlock.
María Eizaguirre, RTVE’s Director of Communication and Participation, had the following to say:
“Hispavisión is currently in a deadlock. We have a bit of leeway. Let’s see if we can go to the next stage soon.”
This is the first update for Hispavisión since last June. The inaugural Contest was due to take place in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, this year. The deadlock is likely to be linked to the launch of the Eurovision Song Contest Latin America last July. The EBU licensed out the format for the region to Voxovation. RTVE held a meeting with the EBU and Voxovation, however it remains to be seen if Hispavisión will be merged with Eurovision Song Contest Latin America.
