Ictimai, the Azerbaijani national broadcaster, have extended their song submissions for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, in Liverpool.
More than 200 songs were submitted by the original song submission deadline of December 31st, however this has been extended to January 15th. According to the Azerbaijani Head of Delegation, the singer and song that will represent Azerbaijan in Liverpool is expected to be selected by the end of January.
Vasif Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Head of Delegation, had the following to say:
“Our goal and desire with this is to have local composer’s music featured in the competition. Based on the selection process, if local and foreign songs meet the same criteria, we will prefer the local song. That is, we really want the music of Azerbaijani composers to be played in the competition. Let’s demonstrate that we also have talented composers. I hope this can serve as a stimulus for years to come.”
