Over the course of October and November, on the lead up to the 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that have participated at the Contest. Today, we celebrate Russia.

Russia debuted at the Contest in 2005, in Hasselt, Belgium. Vladislav Krutskikh finished in ninth place with his entry “Doroga k solntsu”, scoring 66 points. This included two sets of twelve points – from Belarus and the EBU.

The most successful entry from Russia was in both 2006 and 2017. In 2006, when the Contest took place in Bucharest, Romania, The Tolmachevy Twins finished in first place with their entry “Vesenniy jazz”, scoring 154 points. This included eight sets of twelve points – from Belarus, Belgium, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Ukraine and the EBU.

In 2017, when the Contest took place in Tbilisi, Georgia, Polina Bogusevich finished in first place with her entry “Wings”, scoring 188 points. This included four sets of twelve points – from Australia, Georgia, North Macedonia and Portugal.

The most recent Russian entry was in 2021, when the Contest took place in Paris, France. Tatyana Mezhentseva finished in seventh place with their entry “Mon Ami”, scoring 124 points.

Before rehearsals got underway in Gliwice, in 2019, John had a chance to speak to Tatyana and Denberel. They finished in thirteenth place, with “A Time for Us”.
