
On August 12th, the SHORT LIST for the 2023 Host City was revealed. While we don’t know where the Eurovision Song Contest will be held next year until the Autumn, we thought we’d look back at the cities that have already hosted the Contest.
Luxembourg City
Luxembourg City hosted the 1962, 1966, 1973 and 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, in Luxembourg. In 1984, the Contest was held at the Théâtre Municipal and was won by Sweden. The Herreys performed “Diggi-Loo Diggi Ley”, taking victory with 145 points. Ireland was represented by Linda Martin, who performed “Terminal 3”. She finished in 2nd place, with 137 points.
Madrid
Madrid hosted the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest, in Spain. The Contest was held at the Teatro Real and was won by four countries in a tie for 18 points. Ireland was represented by Muriel Day & the Lindsays, who performed “The Wages of Love”. They finished in 7th place, with 10 points.
Malmo
Malmo hosted the 1992 and 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, in Sweden. In 2013, the Contest was held at the Malmo Arena and was won by Denmark. Emmelie de Forest performed “Only Teardrops”, taking victory with 281 points. Ireland was represented by Ryan Dolan, who performed “Only Love Survives”. He finished in 26th place, with 5 points.
Millstreet
Millstreet hosted the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, in Ireland. The Contest was held at the Green Glens Arena and was won by Ireland. Niamh Kavanagh performed “In Your Eyes”, taking victory with 187 points.
Moscow
Moscow hosted the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, in Russia. The Contest was held at the Olimpiysky Arena and was won by Norway. Alexander Rybak performed “Fairytale”, taking victory with 387 points. Ireland was represented by Sinéad Mulvey and Black Daisy, who performed “Et Cetera”. They finished in 11th place in the Semi Final, with 52 points.
