Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Finland.
Finland debuted at the Contest in 1961, in Cannes, France. Laila Kinnunen finished in tenth place, with their entry “Valoa ikkunassa”, scoring 6 points.
The most successful entry from Finland was in 2006, when the Contest took place in Athens, Greece. Lordi finished in first place with their entry “Hard Rock Hallelujah”, scoring 292 points. This included eight sets of twelve points from Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
The most recent Finnish entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Aksel was due to represent Finland with his entry “Looking Back”.
This year, Finland will be represented by Blind Channel with their song “Dark Side”. Will Blind Channel take Finland to their second victory?
